It takes a small army of publishing professionals, subject enthusiasts and market experts to create and sell the 200 books produced each year by the Osprey Group – a collection of niche publishers that includes Osprey Publishing, Shire Publications and Angry Robot Books.
The Osprey Group employs a team of 40 friendly people in their offices in West Oxford, and are now looking for a bright individual to fill the role of Marketing Administrator. This is a permanent, full-time position.
The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with creating catalogues and direct marketing pieces, maintaining and updating the corporate e-commerce sites, managing bibliographic data, ensuring deadlines for supplying data are met, maintaining in house database systems, writing copy, managing review and publicity campaigns and providing general support for the marketing department.
They will work as part of a lively team, learning essential skills through close involvement in all aspects of a book’s life.
The ideal candidate will display a passion for organization and an eye for detail. Administration experience would be highly beneficial.

INITIALLY A ONE-YEAR CONTRACT
We are pleased to be looking for an enthusiastic Production Controller to join our thriving department. This is a one-year contract with the strong potential to become permanent. This is a unique role in which you will project-manage your own series of books from draft text, through our XML workflow, to binding and shipping. You will work closely with in-house editorial staff and external suppliers to get the books printed on time and on budget. This role involves extensive design aspects, as you will correct layouts, design covers and retouch images. Therefore, you must have solid experience using InDesign and Photoshop. You will need to be organised and unflappable – the ability to juggle a wide range of tasks and deadlines is essential!
You will have an excellent eye for detail and a good understanding of print production, with at least two years’ experience working within a production department.

DIGITAL PRODUCTION EDITOR
(Temporary – initially a 6 month contract)
This is initially a 6 month temp role to work in our Production Department at Oxford, to work on our Digital content.
Seeking where necessary the contractual approval of Osprey’s backlist titles for ebook conversion. Assisting the Digital Production Controller with pre-ebook conversion roles including the collation of covers, metadata, PDF files and image content for Osprey’s backlist titles.
- Administration of contract paperwork, clearing ebook permission. Establishing good relationships with contributors. Extending agreements / disclaimer/waiver documents.
- Picture rights clearance, securing invoices from collections, negotiation of terms with small/private collections when required
- Maintenance of financial records: coding up of all invoices, managing master spreadsheet
- Managing spreadsheets and e-right data
- ebook cover collection and conversion
- Sourcing of PDF files and all associated images for the ebook conversion process
- Collating and outputting of PDF files from layout – QuarkXPress and InDesign
- ebook metadata collection and creation for distribution purposes
- Production aware know-how for digital content
- Communication skills
- Project management
