Peter Gaunt

Dr Peter Gaunt is Reader in History at Chester College, a College of the University of Liverpool. He has published widely on the military, political and constitutional history of mid-seventeenth century England, including studies of the civil war in Wales (A Nation under Siege, HMSO, 1991), of the physical remains of the civil wars (The Cromwellian Gazetteer, Alan Sutton, 1987) and of the British-wide naure of the wars (The British Wars, Routledge, 1997), and a full length biography of Oliver Cromwell (Oliver Cromwell, Blackwell, 1996); most recently he has edited and provided an extensive commentary upon a wide-ranging reader of the civil war (The English Civil War, Blackwell, 2000). Work in progress includes editing for publication the surviving correspondence of Henry Cromwell and jointly editing English Historical Documents 1603-60. Peter Gaunt is Chairman of the The Cromwell Association and editor of the annual journal Cromwelliana.
