Robert R Powell
‘Boom’ Powell grew up on Long Island. His father was a comic book artist who served as a B-24 navigator during World War 2. Powell attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on a Navy Reserve Officers' Training Corps scholarship and even before Pensacola and Navy flight training he had soloed a Piper Colt. He did tours in Vietnam and became an instructor pilot; first in the A-4 Skyhawk and later in the RA-5C Vigilante. He retired with the rank of Commander after assignments that included tours as Naval Attaché to South Africa and on USS Eisenhower. He followed his military career with a commercial one flying Boeing 747s for Pan American and Atlas Air. Powell began writing while in the Navy and continues to write for The Hook and aviation magazines. He has a fighter ace biography published and continues work on both fiction and non-fiction projects. With his wife, Marie, and two large poodles, he is happily ensconced in Virginia Beach.
