Wow - I never knew anything about that before. Despite having been taught about the "history" of the America's in school. Just goes to prove once more how the official version of history is propaganda written by the victors (or more usually, the successors of the victors).

YES! FINALLY! As an Englishman living in Colombia for 4 years I learned about the existence of the British legion - and I've visitied one the few reminders of their existance, a plaque at Puente de Boyacá, site of the Battle of Boyacá. A few mentions pop up elsewhere (in histories of Bolivar and his campaigns (or even in fiction, see "El general en su laberinto" by García Márquez) but only work in English I have that talks about them in Osprey's MAA - 232. I've always thought of it is an incredible story and I'm really looking forward to reading it.

"In the aftermath of the Battle of Waterloo, over six thousand British volunteers sailed across the Atlantic to aid Simón Bolívar liberate Gran Colombia from her oppressors in Madrid. "

that is quite an ambivalent statement, considdering those Waterloo veterans im most cases were also Peninsular War Veterans, who helped re-installing those oppressors in Madrid in the first place... but then soldiers of fortunes are little interested in politics and it was San Martin himself who fought FOR his oppressors at Bailen in 1808....
