Earn your ‘Osprey Duel Campaign Ribbon’.

A group of dedicated modellers are launching a new campaign based on the Osprey Duel series and giving everyone a chance to earn their very own campaign ribbon.
A month or so ago, I got an email from a modeller who wanted to start up a ‘campaign’ based on Osprey Duel. While I’ve long had an interest in modelling, I have never been a frequenter of the various modelling forums, so I didn’t immediately understand his question. Well, my eyes have been opened to a whole new (miniature) world, and it looks darn fun.
Over at Kit Maker Network, where many modellers keep an online profile, people are awarded campaign ribbons for participation in various modelling projects. Each project has it’s own unique ribbon, which recipients can display on their profile.
This sounded like such a fun idea; I definitely wanted to get Osprey involved. We have therefore given our blessing to the campaign, which will feature a little Osprey Duel ribbon (the larger version is depicted here).
Full rules and regulations for the Campaign can be found here, but basically, modellers either have to build two models, based on an Osprey Duel book, or team-up with another modeller to make one each.
The campaign will run all of next year. Hopefully we will be able to show off the work of some of the participants here on the blog.
So, if you’ve ever fancied getting into modelling, this might be a fun project to start you off!

I guess writing two Duels doesn't count.
Seriously though, anyone (or team) that qualifies for a Duel campaign ribbon based on the Duels that I wrote that wrote, deserves something above and beyond that because you have to make at least two full-rigged ships or two barques. I'd be willing to send something as a token of my appreciations for reader loyalty. Get in touch with Osprey and give them your contact information. (You guys at Osprey will pass it on to me, right?)
I don't have that big a budget, and this is coming from Mark Lardas, not Osprey, Ltd, but I will do this. For the first two ribbons, I will send an autographed copy of my upcoming Duel (Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis). (One book for each project -- if it is a team, you guys battle out how to divide it.) For the next 48, I will send one of the interior illustrations I used in the book -- the 8x10 print I sent Osprey. If there are over 50 ribbons awarded I will send a letter of thanks. Date is based on the day you notify Osprey.
I will be surprised if I get past the books to the photos. I mean that takes making two sailing frigates or two steam-sloops-of-war.

I know how much work goes into building even one three-masted sailing ship. I make models of sailing-era ships. That was part of my motivation in offering something extra to anyone that actually finishes two!
