I wonder if you can tell me what the status of publishing on books about the Spanish Civil War is in Spain? Resurgence or stagnant? Any historiographical trends apparent?
I know Paul Preston has a new book called the Spanish Holocaust just released in Spain and due out in English later this year and wondered if this is part of a trend.
Thanks for the interesting blog.

Regarding books published in Spanish concerning the Spanish Civil War there are masses to choose from, but you just have to understand Spanish! Good picture books too. Far to many to detail here. Some good, some bad, but often related to local activity. In Catalunya there is Memorial Democratic with a large number of Centres of Interpretation throughout Catalunya, especially on the Ebro battlefield. But again virtually all the text is in Spanish or Catalan. Sadly in the rest of Spain the Recovery of the Historical Memory is not so advanced but it is there if you know where to look. I am eagerly awaiting Ben Knight's new book "They shall not Pass!" on the Battle of Jarama. Though my main interest is the Ebro and the Aragon Front seeing that I live and research the International Brigades in the Spanish
landscape.

Yes, there's lots of publishing going on here on the Spanish Civil War. The magazine Serga that I mentioned in my post has a related article in most issues. As you might expect with a civil war still in living memory, many books and articles take a side, either implicitly or explicitly. Good, neutral histories by Spanish authors are hard to come by. Sierra, can you suggest one? I can read Spanish. In fact, reading military history was one of the ways I learned the language!
