The summer I graduated from high school, two high school buddies (wargamers, like me) and I took a tour of the Eastern Theater Civil War battlefields -- Antietam, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, and the Wilderness.

Of all of them -- including Gettysburg -- the Antietam battlefield impressed me the most. It had changed the least since the Civil War, and you could about picture yourself there on the day of battle. They were still growing corn in the cornfield!

Don't know if that is still so, It's been mumble-mumble years since that summer, and my youngest son is the age I was then. That trip helped cement my interest in the American Civil War.
