I wasn't able to watch the episodes when they first aired, so I recorded them on my Sky Box and watched them later. The second episode didn't record for some reason, but the first one was a bit disappointing (for all the reasons you cite). Also, just to be a pedantic anorak, I was annoyed by the fact that the UKSF guys were always flying around in an ancient UH-1H Huey in Iraq. I got intrigued when the main man hands over his personal weapon (an "SAS" G3 shorty) to the MI5 strap-hanger but then annoyed when it was later referred to as an HK UMP!

The Zimbabwe episodes were pretty good - but the big confession in the bush was trite, and the inclusion of the obligatory orphanage that turns the tough guys into a couple of suddenly concerned citizens was laughable. Mind you, the gear, camo and weaponry in those episodes was great - no doubt thanks to the South African location of the filming.

The final, Afghan, episodes were okay - but quickly spiralled over the top into the realms of the ridiculous. I started to smirk when the two protaganists finally have their big show-down/smack-down, this turned to a full-blown guffaw as that scene reached its climax, erupted into laughter when a single hand grenade blew up a building with the force of a JDAMM, and ended with a "FFS" as I reached for the stop button when the voice-over came on over the final scene.

I then went back and deleted all the episodes from my Sky Box - don't need that crap taking up disk space...
