Peter,

Thanks for sharing the art work evolution for the First Manassas battle scene. The attention to detail by yourself and Ron (presumably Ron Fields) is deeply appreciated.

The list of your work is impressive. You might want to ask Osprey Publishing why their web site does not have a link for you in the Authors / Illustrators section. The page exists but someone needs to conduct a search to find the extensive list of other Osprey books you have provided artwork for.

I recently received a copy of Fallen Timber 1794. While not yet fully consumed the book is outstanding so far. There is an apparent problem with the description on page 66 that is associated with the "The American Right" battle scene on pages 64 & 65. Figure 6 is noted to be locking his folding spear. However, the artwork does not seem to match that description.

Regards

Thanks, Ranger. There is an entry for me on the Osprey illustrator section.
As for Fallen Timbers and the caption glitch, I can only say 'There's many a slip between the cup and the lip'. Authors often write the caption before the illustration is completed, and if I don't follow the caption to the letter - for artistic reasons, of course, and nobody picks that up among the welter of detail... there you are.
Glad you're enjoying FT.

For anyone interested in seeing the full (and very impressive list) of books that Peter has illustrated, you can see them here http://www.ospreypublishing.com/authors/Peter_Dennis

All you need to do is scroll across the books underneath his short bio. That's it... keep scrolling.... keep going... Told you it was an impressive list ;-)

Peter,

Yes. I now see that the OP web site compartmentalizes Illustrators from Authors.

Overall, OP seems to do a good job in coordinating the myriad of efforts so that mistakes are few. Hopefully, future printings of Fallen Timbers 1794 will address the page 66 description of Figure 6. Otherwise the elaborate description of page 64 & 65 artwork figures, and of course the artwork itself, is first rate. The Ottawa making an apparent suicide attack is imposing.

Cheers

Fantastic. Thanks for the behind the scenes articles, Osprey & Peter. I hope one day I'll be able to paint to this level of quality.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for letting us in on how you work. I fondly remember a few years back your preliminary dogfight sketches for Amiens 1918.
I've got Fallen Timbers 1794 coming in the mail, and I'm looking forward to it. You did a great job on Wabash 1791, too. I'm actually going to Ft. Recovery this summer.
My favorite of yours so far was Vauban in the Fortress series.

Thanks for your kind comments, CMB.
I donated the originals of the Wabash artworks to Ft Recovery so you'll see them there. Nancy Knapke, who seems to run the place, got completely under my radar.
A Vets association bought the paintings from them then gave them back to the museum- and paid for the framing- so the fort raised enough for the new furnace they needed. That was my good deed for last year, and this, so don't ask!
