Will there be more Raid titles next year and in 2015 than there were this year? Just a curious question.

What happened to 2014? Sounds promising. I'm guessing Zama (finally!) and Byzantine Dhroman vs Saracen corsair for the DUEL, Telemark for RAID, and a three book treatment on Waterloo.

Thanks for the insight into Osprey's publishing process.
I was wondering if you can share any information on how Osprey determines how many of a particular series get published a year. Obviously number of suggested titles in a series proposed, author/ illustrator availability and relative popularity of the series all play a factor. Cost of producing a book must also influence production. Does Osprey set minimums on cornerstone series? (ie we must produce at least 8 MAAs a year, 9 Campaigns, 9 NVGs),
Just inquisitive!

Good to read (like Warrior-serie)!
Hope Waterloo. And hope focus at the forgotten Dutch-Belgian and german states, and prelude att QuatreBras, Ligny, Wavre.

Good news, in particular Waterloo and Zama (what else about punic wars?), but what about 2014?

Very interesting Mike, I await the final list with bated breath. For me the highlights are the tantalizing prospect of Zama in Campaign (just think of the Elephants paintybeard!!!! Lol), that’s massive ancient world gap filled. A three-volume breakdown of Waterloo??? Hmmm, ok I’m listening. I’m also interested to see what the “some 18th centaury” reference is in Campaign – please tell me you are moving away from 18th centaury North America for a change (Dettingen, Fontenoy or Minden maybe??? Or maybe even the big missing War of Spanish Succession titles - Ramillies, Oudenarde or Malplaquet??? We can only wait and see!). Hopefully Chinese and Australian Aircraft of the Aces are on the cards, if so you can put me down for both of those, likewise a Telemark Raid title if that’s what’s planned. The Duel hints look intriguing and I’ll be keeping an eye on those.

PS. Can we assume that we will be seeing the 2014 list revealed mid this year as usual???

Would like to see the Graphic History series re-activated for British battles.

Fortress is back?

Groovy, I have a couple of suggestions.

But I'll wait until we get a little closer.

(I was going to say something about Battle Orders, but...)

Look forward to the yet unknown titles. Crossing fingers for something related to the Sassanians.
Due the Punic title, while I believe it is going to be Zama, a Campaign due the Truceless War/Mercenary War would make interesting a title too.

We will be revealing our full 2014 list around the middle of the year as usual. Looks like some good guesses there - though one of your Campaign shouts is sadly wrong...

Just a thought, but that 'anniversary' campaign could, in theory, be the Dardenelles 1915 as it lasted many months so gives more scope for multi-volume (especially if naval operations prior to the landing are included).
Not saying I'm right, only warning Waterloo fans not to get too over-excited yet, just in case they're wrong.
(If they are right, then I guess the split would be (1) Ligny, (2) Quatre Bras and (3) Waterloo itself - can't see a whole book being devoted to Wavre!)

Also, are the three volumes all being published in 2015? If so, will the total number of Campaign books be more (14 or 15) than in recent years (11, 12 or 13) so there is plenty of room for other stuff?!

Tarawa90 - Byzantine vs Saracen would be Medieval really, not Ancient, so I am not sure that is the subject aluded to (which would be a pity, really).

Alessio - you are probably right about Zama , but could be the Metaurus 207BC.

Equaliser - sorry to disagree but I remember having a quick look at a Graphic History title and shuddering. I found something distasteful about real battles, in which real people died, treated in a WHAM! KERPOW! superhero style. It glorified war in a way that Campaign doesn't - in the latter, combatants are shown as real people, not broad-jawed 1950-style macho stereotypes (acceptable in fictional 'Commando' tales but not in history books).

md - Fair point, however, the Graphic History series was aimed at a younger readership, very much in the same way as Commando, but with the former being based on real battles, including the addition of actual facts, which could encourage them to pursue more detailed books on the subject in the same way films like Zulu did for myself. I did like the Commando comics though, but they were always WW2.

2015 are 150 year after end of American civil war. So three campaigns of the surrender of Lee, Johnston, Taylor? CSS Shenandoah Hunt for Jeff Davis? I can hope... ;-)

Well I was thinking major anniversary's on 5 years. Wasn't going to be 200th for New Orleans, thought maybe something in the Civil War or WWII, but WWI flew right over my head. SO I assumed it would be a Waterloo update. To be fair though Gallipoli needs an update too. I can see it now. Stunning artwork by Graham Turner or Peter Dennis of the ANZACs getting chewed up by frontal assaults. (what were they thinking?) As long as it's not Howard Gerrard!!!!!!!!

Nice to see osprey readers opinions count! Punic campaign title, great! Maybe Zama? Ancient Warrior titles, very interesting; New Vanguard in "previously unexplored territory" (?), intriguing...; Great!, an Ancient World Combat, yuhuu! (please, roman); I like to see a raid title on ancient period...; maybe a gladius weapon series?; duel in ancient times, good to read...
It´s time to wait...There is a lot of time until 2015... I hope more clues in near future.

to mdaniels: thinking well the book on Punic Wars could be also the siege of chartage itself (146 BC).

Hi Mike,
For the campaign title that " celebrates a significant anniversary in 2015", I bet on Berlin 1945. Right or wrong?

Mike, it would appear that you are the Osprey riddle master!

Good news on Fortress being revived. I'd feared it had gone to live on a farm with the Command series!

The hacking and slashing weapons titles sound interesting.

Interesting point - I (and, I think, most others) was thinking in multiples of 100. However, the Civil War title was mentioned separately.

laurent14
Berlin 1945 was covered relatively recently (certainly much more so than Waterloo or Gallipoli) and the lead up to it was covered in Prit Buttar's 'Battleground Prussia' general history book as well.

My money is still on either Waterloo or the Dardanelles.
But then we could all be wrong! :)

So one of Zama or the 3 vol. set on the Waterloo campaign is wrong.

I still think Osprey will do Waterloo. The campaign lends itself neatly to a 3 vol. treatment (Ligny, Quatre-Bras, Waterloo itself), and there are no other obvious candidates (3 books on Agincourt or Gallipoli?).

So no Zama. Odd. My guess isn't Metaurus, though it's a good one, but rather one of the big naval battles of the First Punic War, like Cape Ecnomus.

The COMBAT ancient title must be Roman legion Vs Greek Phanalax, the NEW VANGARD "cold war colossus" is for sure th B-52, in ELITE perhaps a irregular force, CAMPAIGN will be Zama.

Hugo

I agree that three volumes on Agincourt is very improbable - don't think 3 volumes on Gallipoli is so ludicrous (canpaign over many months; multiple landings etc.)

Cape Ecnomus would be good (probably still likely to be Zama, though).

I hope that the Triple Alliance War isn't one of the future MEN AT ARMS "out-performing all the expectations in recent book votes as well as another title which has been asked for repeatedly over the years" because I want to see it in 2014:) but I am afraid that we need to wait one year more

3 book series on Gallipoli? Dunno... There's the ANZAC angle (two additional Anglo markets, AUS and NZ), but I don't think books covering WW1 military operations have much commercial appeal right now. WW1 doesn't attract hardware enthusiasts the way WW2 does (save for the aviation niche) for a starters. The main areas of interest of WW1 enthusiasts, at least in the Anglo world, seem to be genealogy and battlefield tourism.
