Henry VIII: Dressed to Kill
April 7, 2009 12:00 AM
Apparently there is a new exhibition at the Tower of London that should be worth a look at if you are interested in the arms and armour of the Tudor age. Henry VIII: Dressed to Kill covers the early arms race that the Tudor monarch indulged in when he wasn't swapping wives. It includes a suit of armour so innovative that NASA studied it, a codpiece as propoganda object and a combined gun and mace.

And then see if you can get away with it as a family day out over Easter.

Really interesting! Take note, Osprey: French Gendarme and European Reinassance Knight could be popular subject for the warrior/elite lines.

We already have Tudor Knight - http://www.ospreypublishing.com/store/Tudor-Knight_9781841769707! it is interesting though. I watched David Starkey last night on Henry VIII and it was more interesting than I expected. Went a bit mad on televisual gimmicks but the history was good.

Clearly I have Tudor Knight and all the English Knight volumes. I have just a complain about Tudor Knight: While good as many Gravett’s book, it tends to be speak about “the general English soldier in the 16th century” and not specifically of the English knights in that period. For example the information about the Gentlemen Pensioners and the Bullerners and the experience on the battlefield is minimal.
Again I hope that the French Gendarme (quite popular in a previous Osprey survey), the Burgundian Gendarme Companies and the Italian Renaissance Knight could be a really good subject for future Osprey publications.
