Glad to see the series still going strong and Im really looking forward to the upcoming titles. On the subject of reprints I would like to see MAA 45 Napoleons Polish Troops and MAA 242 Modern African Wars 3 South-West Africa being reprinted as they are the only 2 outstanding MAA titles that I dont own. Looking forward to see the 2011 titles list! Regards, Steve

I second Superstevo's post. Both of those books are also on my wishlist as well. I would be especially pleased to see Modern African Wars (3): South West Africa reprinted.

While it is good to hear that the editorial staff are taking a stronger interest in Osprey's flagship MAA series I find it ridiculous that there could ever be a a lack of ideas for new titles regardless of period. The Elite series is nothing more than a MAA with more text, especially as the color plates content was reduced from 12 to 8 several years ago. Though the coverage of commanders, tactics & home fronts was a good idea instead of having to create a new series. The MAA series still lacks titles on the Wurttemberg Army of the Napoleonic Wars, The US Army in Korea 1950-53, German Hired Troops in America 1776-83 (get started on that one Rene Chartrand! LOL), French & Spanish Forces of the Thirty Years' War, more titles in Mike Chappell's Wellington's Peninsula Regiments series...........The possibilities really are limitless especially as Osprey has been focusing on new books that go into far more depth than previous titles did, for example the 3-volume sets on British & German Armies of WW I to compliment the single-volume treatments of the late 1970's. I for one would love to see more comprehensive coverage of American Forces of 1775-83 & 1812-15 that cover more than yards of cloth received in recent titles & actually discuss organisation, tactics and weapons.
With regard to the early MAA titles reprints I've always found the old titles to be fascinating but cannot understand why they have had their covers altered to match current titles. They also should have been edited prior to reprinting as some such as MAA 33 US Cavalry have inexcusable errors of fact in the text & figures in the color plates that are completely wrong. Some titles like Martin Windrow's Montcalm's Army could simply be reissued with a new set of color plates.

i'd rather have a completely new treatment of all early Napoleonic MaA. namely, Polish & Scandinavian Armies, Napoleon's German allies (preferably a new title as well, since they weren't always his allies), French Cavalry (there still isn't a title on french revolutionary cavalry as of now), the Brunswickers. all those are lacking certain infos. and those German allies that haven't been covered yet at all, Württemberg, Baden, Mecklenburg, Frankfurt and all those minors that constituted the Rheinbund regiments.
as for the Thirty Year's War, don't forget the Danes, Dutch, the German minors and, the coolest of all, Transsylvania.
looking forward to the 2011 preview.

Superstevo and Fagantor - MAA 45 Napoleons Polish Troops is due out in October this year, MAA 242 Modern African Wars 3 is due to be back in stock in August.
Michael - as I mentioned above it is not really the subjects that we are struggling with (there are some great new titles coming out) it is often finding authors to write on those particular subjects. With regards to the older reprints - we changed the covers at the request of a number of bookshops - who said that they struggled to sell books with the older covers on them. Errors are obviously something that we never want to appear in our books, and wherever possible at reprint stages we do try to implement corrections. However for some of our oldest books this simply isn't possible as we don't have the books in an editable format - looking back at the old film days! Republishing an older title with brand new artwork would be nice, but unfortunately is a financial nightmare - artwork costs in a MAA title comes to nearly half the total cost of producing the book - and getting sufficient sales on a book like this would be tough - but we are looking into the possibility of doing completely new books on subjects where new research has come to light and where our older books are not quite as good as we would like.
Good call on the American Forces books!

I agree with chrisw: Very good news for the Soviet army series. The Red army will have at last a better coverage. Mike, let me give you my suggestions for future titles:
- NKVD troops of the Great patriotic war: OK, I am a bit greedy but it would be very great.
- French colonial troops in WW2, especially Moroccan goums, formidable warriors and unique uniforms.
- IJN navy, South African and New Zealander troops, all WW2 titles, are also well placed in my wishlist.

Mike@Osprey: Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad to see the editorial staff do listen to readers' comments & & that my groaning about errors in past titles finally got some notice! While I can understand some of Osprey's more prolific authors like Gordon Rottman, David Nicolle & Rene Chartrand being rather busy there are some such as Mark Henry & Phillip Haythornthwaite who I have not seen a new title from in years so why not put them to work? The upcoming 3-parter on the Soviets in WW II is welcome but readers should be aware of the excellent MAA title The Red Army of the Great Patriotic War 1941-45. I will say the old-style script on the MAA covers is missed, but at least the new font is an improvement on the dreadful 1991-2001 block letters. On a final note, hopefully my idea for a title on the Army of Vlad Dracula will see the light of day (NO pun intended!)

I wouldn't 'stake' my career on the Vlad book Michael! Although it would make a good companion to our upcoming Zombie book...

Mike@Osprey: The real-life campaigns of Vlad the Impaler & his wars against the Turks would compliment the 1988 MAA title Hungary & The Fall of Eastern Europe quite well. I'm sure David Nicolle & Graham Turner would be the ideal author & artist.

well "complement" is good, whole new books would be better. "Hungary and the Fall of Eastern Europe" has ALL of the Medieval Balkans from ca1000-1500 in a single volume. needless to say, Hungary alone deserves its own title, as well as medieval Serbia, Bulgaria and the Romanian principalities. i'd also like to see something new on medieval christian Iberia, "El Cid and the Reconquista" covers both christian and muslim forces but then the Moors was released, covering only muslim forces in Iberia. i'd like to see a new single volume on the armies of Portugal, Castile-Leon, Navarre and Aragon.
