For the avoidance of doubt (possibly occasioned by our positioning of the photos in relation to the text), the two views that come immediately after the sardines and octopus are not to the west, but to the south-east, showing the Salamis side of the straits, and, roughly, due east, showing the mainland side, which the Persians had occupied. The small ferryboat that can be seen in the middle of the first of these two pictures is pretty much the same length as a trireme. There were around 900 triremes in the straits at the peak of the battle!
