I'll reread books, no different to rewatching DVD's in my opinion although I might only reread part of the book - perhaps the juicy battle chapters.

I've read the Flashman series at leat three times over the years, in order of publication. The only other books I can remmeber rerading were the Lord of the Rings, Heart of Darkness and Michael Moorcocks The Cornelius Chronicles. I am not exactly rereading, but constantly skimming my Osprey books in idle moments, when a question enters my mind, for wargame figure painting details or just to study the plate commnetaries.

I have comfort books too (and do the same thing with the split period Flashman books! -still haven't read part 2 of Flashman and the Redskins!)
Early Sharpe novels, Early Clive Cusslers, Anthony Conway's Caspasian series and an excellent non-fiction book, Invasion: They're Coming by Paul Carel, which tells the story of D-Day from the german point of view.

Another great series for comfort re-reading is Hornblower. Again you can choose publication or chronological order. I have also re-read "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" but it is not a "comfort read."

Although I haven't actually read them all yet, the Aubrey/Maturin novels of Patrick O'Brian are firm favourites of mine. For taking my mind off the mundanity and grind of the 9 to 5, they can't be beaten.

I have just stumbled upon your blog on this rainy evening and would like to thank Colin Upton for including my novels among his comfort books. I am flattered.
I confess that many Osprey books line my shelves and have been invaluable reference material when taking John Caspasian on his adventures.
Regretfully he is currently on a prolonged vacation as Hodder & Stoughton pulled the plug on him after publication of the fourth in the series. However, the fifth has been completed and I am hopeful that he will draw his kukri again some day. Thank you again, Colin.

Glad you find Osprey books useful Anthony. I looked up your books and I'll be picking one up as soon as I can.

Just realised I have thanked the wrong person. I believe it is Legatus Hedlius I must thank for including my novels among his comfort books. I misread the authorship of the various blog entries! So thank you, Legatus. I hope it won't be too long before you are able to increase your portfolio of comfort books with a fifth Caspasian.

I re-read stuff though not as much as I re-watch stuff on video or DVD. Nothing weird about it at all.
