As many of our British readers have probably noticed, this year the Royal British Legion have re-launched their Poppy Appeal with a series of touching adverts featuring ‘Poppy Man’ .
The Royal British Legion provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants. Currently, nearly 10.5 million people are eligible for our support and we receive thousands of calls for help every year. The Poppy Appeal is one of the ways that the Legion raises the money to pay for this support. The first official Legion Poppy Day was held in Britain on 11 November 1921, inspired by the poem In Flanders' Fields written by John McCrae. Since then the Poppy Appeal has been a key annual event in the nation's calendar.
If you haven’t had a chance to donate to the Poppy Appeal this year, and you would like to take part and support the Legion then you can donate here. And don’t forget the two minutes silence at 11am on the 11th November to remember soldiers who have been killed or wounded in conflict around the world.
