Gotta go for #1 The Vikings.

The pillaging, drinking, and burning reminds me of a friend's school Christmas party years ago.

#3, which reminds me of a Christmas story I wrote (Tanker's Christmas? I'm not even sure of the title any more)many, many years ago. In Durham, I think, before we moved to Greensboro.

#1 Least we forget. Mr Mcbride Died this year and it would only be fitting for Osprey to use his artwork.

I vote for the Vikings, they look like they are ready to enjoy a Christmas Feast, and its a McBride...

I asked myself which I would have liked to have received most and number 2 gets it by a decent margin.

I like the tribute to Mr McBride but not with that piece of artwork - does nothing for me and doesn't say 'Osprey' as much as the other pair.

Posted by: Paul S | October 03, 2007 at 11:48 AM

I vote for the Vikings. Nothing says Christmas like pillaging over the holidays.

Santa goes vikingr, back then he was a bit slimmer and not so much grey, already had the taste for goose and beer though!

Posted by: Dave | October 03, 2007 at 01:47 PM

#1 - the Vikings. They're making merry, as one should at Christmas, but something tells me they didn't pay for their Crimbo dinner.

Posted by: Alex W | October 03, 2007 at 02:32 PM

Vikings of course!

The US soldiers digging in. Happened at Christmas, not actively violent, not celebrating pillage and drunkenness. If I were a supplier, I could put that up in the office without feeling I was putting up something un-christmas.

I'm with you, Les.

Number #2 Can not go wrong with Napoleonics.

#3 because the Christmas timeframe fits the picture, the theme is appropriate and I like the pic. #1 is cool and McBride did tremendous work but #3 seems most appropriate to me.

Posted by: Mike O'Brien | October 03, 2007 at 05:17 PM

For me it has to be the Vikings. This would be a great tribute to Angus McBride.

Posted by: John M | October 03, 2007 at 05:22 PM

I like number 1 (The Vikings).

At the first Christmas one receives a visit from three wise men out of the east bearing gifts, and a few centuries later you're stuck with three bearded oafs who plunder the village's moveable goods and burn the rest!

VIKINGS!!!

...and even though I'm a US soldier who has spent Christmas downrange, I get a happier image when I think of happy drunken Vikings than Screaming Eagles at Bastogne...

*1 the vikings
They celebrated christmas(Drank Jul, jul being the swedish word for christmas) long before they got christened=)

Posted by: Tomas | October 03, 2007 at 08:59 PM

Number 2 - very seasonal, there's a bugler and it's geese and pig friendly! As someone else said, it reminds me of the shopping rush before Chrimbo.

Posted by: Kev Morris | October 04, 2007 at 02:19 AM

Number 1 gets my vote.

The Vikings are fantastic twist on both the traditional "Santa" and "Three Wisemen" cards.

Posted by: Michael Barlow | October 04, 2007 at 04:25 AM

It has to be #3. The Battered Bastards of Bastogne best represent the Christmas spirit. These were the men that liberated the world from darkness. It is fitting that their image should be used for a card celebrating the birth of the greatest liberator of all.

Posted by: Tom Bryant | October 04, 2007 at 05:49 AM

I vote for the Battered Bastards Of Bastogne. It has to be number 3.

I'm not eligible for the competition and I'm not sure my vote should count but I love the Vikings. Doubly fitting because it is an Angus McBride piece.

Posted by: Rich | October 04, 2007 at 09:59 AM

Vikings is the best choice - the picture is both pleasant and ispiring.

The Bastogne is the worst choice -- too policical, and nothing special.

Posted by: Igor Dudchenko | October 04, 2007 at 02:12 PM

I vote for number 1.

"Vikings? There ain't no Vikings here, just us honest farmers. The town was burning and the villagers were already dead when we got here. They didn't need those geese anyway. That's our story and we're sticking to it."

#2

I wouldn't want to have #1, because I don't want a Christmas card showing a goose being held ready for presumabely the slaughter.

Posted by: EasyPeasy21 | October 05, 2007 at 09:03 PM

It has to be the Vikings; Santa is but one bearded reprobate, whereas this image displays triple the fun.

Posted by: Colin Chapman | October 06, 2007 at 12:48 AM

I think that the option more representative of Christmas is that of Saint Niklaus`s ancestors (that inclusively, are long-bearded); my vote is for Number 1: Vikings.

In light of the Ken Burn event, I would go with GI's picture. Besides, drunken Vikings celebrating rape and pillage just doesn't quite do it for the birth of our Savior.

Posted by: Ron Lawson | October 07, 2007 at 06:42 PM

A tough choice between No.1 and No. 3. Finally decided that No. 3 is my first choice.
Thanks for giving the customers the choice.

#3 gets my vote. The battles that winter should not be forgotten. (Even if it's Infantry and TDs instead of the men in the Armor Battalions in their 30 ton ice boxes!)

has to be the vikings, a fitting tribute

#3

#1 is a close runner up but since #1 seems to be the result of drunken Xmas revelrie, I'll have to settle for #1

#3......For a few reasons:

a) The Defence of Bastogne actually took place at Christmastime.

b)It's a reminder that while it may be Christmas, soldiers are still on the job whereever they may be while we are warm at home opening gifts.

c)It is not overtly political at all.......Just troops "digging in". What military artwork would not be "political"?

d) While I'm a HUGE fan of Angus McBride's work, the pillaging Vikings just don't have a "Christmas feel".

e) The charging Horse Grenadiers may have a winter theme as well..........But it ain't Christmas-ey either!

What about commisioning an artwork of Union & Confederate troops having one of their unoffical "winter truces" 7 exchanging newspapers, food, tobacco etc.?
