My top picture for all the art work I have seen in your collection , wouldf have to be 50th (West Kent ) Private at La Coruña 1809 , in Wellingtons Infantry 1 , though of course it should have been in Sir John Moore's Infantry , but aside from that , it has inspired my whole unit , of Re-enactors

I know I can't be considered for the competition Phil - seeing as I work here...but I would have to suggest two plates from one book - Elite 3 The Vikings, illustrated by none other than the great Angus McBride. I would suggest either the double-page spread which shows two opposing groups of Vikings facing each other across a longboat with chaos in the background and a good smattering of McBride's signature gulls circling in the skies.

Or of course we could go for the battle between Vikings and 'Skraelings' - because how much more awesome could you get? Vikings fighting in North America!!

1. Plate F of MAA 314 Armies of the Ottoman Empire 1775-1820, who would not want to receive a postcard with this well armed but (to me) charming bunch of rogues and cutthroats on the front! (for those without this book the plate shows "Balkan Provincial Forces", exotically clothed and armed to the teeth. A colourful one by Angus McB

2. Plate B of MAA 101 The Conquistadores - Angus McB at his best, simple portrait of Conquistadores, sells itself IMHO.

3. Plate F of New Vanguard150 War Elephants. A classic by P Dennis; Thai v Burmese Smellies and foot troops. This is a great picture that you can keep going back to and picking out new details

4. Well as one of the FoG backroom team at Slitherine I'd like to nominate one of Peter Ds pictures on the front covers of the list companions. Difficult to pick one but the Crusader and Ghilman skirmishing on the front of Swords and Scimitars is a v cool piece of artwork!

I had once heard the the Heruli tribe guised themselves in all black, including their weapons, clothes, skin, and armor, so that they could appear as demons in the night. If that is true, that would be a cool postcard.

Minamoto no Yoshitsune's closest comrad was the giant of a man Saito Musashibo Benkei. According to legend, while Yoshitsune retreated to commit seppuku, Benkei solely defended the bridge to the keep. But because he was of such great stature, soldiers feared to attack him. By the end of the day, they realized that Benkei had actually been dead for some time and was leaning on his spear. I would be cool to have a picture of a bunch of soldiers afraid to near Benkei; Benkei dead and leaning upright on his great spear.

Von Tempski and his Forest Rangers from the 1863-64 New Zealand Landwars/Maori Wars. These guys were the 1860's precursser to the NZ LRDG & NZ SAS special forces. They took bush fighting to a whole new level, taking the fight to the enemy on their own terms. Well trained, well armed with breech loading carbines & custom made 9 inch Bowie knifes Von Tempski's Rangers were respected & feared by their worthy opponents, the proud warriors of the Maori nation.
This would make an awesome postcard!

Just to clarify, we're not commissioning new art for these postcards – what we're looking for are suggestions of existing artwork from our books that you think would look good in a postcard collection.

Cheers!

My favourites plates are mostly by Angus McBride. I think his best plates are from the book Rome Enemies 2: Gallic & British Celts. Plates B, C, D & F are superb depictions of Celtic Warriors, infantryman and cavalrymen. The charioteer on Plate C is just fantastic. From the Warrior title Germanic Warrior 236-568, Plate K of Valaris issuing a challenge would make a good postcard. Other ones I like are:
- Arthur & Anglo-Saxon Wars – Plate C – North British Cavalryman
- Saladin & the Saracens – Plate A – Great Saljuqs
- Armies of Islam (7-11th Cent) – Plate E – Samanid, Buyid, Daylami, Ghaznavid Warriors
- Imperial Chinese Armies 590-1260 – Plate F – Northern Sung Cavalryman & Swordsman
- Medieval Russian Armies 750-1250 – Plate G – Chernye Klobuki
- Mughal India 1504-1761 – Plate B & C – Mughal Cavalryman
- Conquistadores – Plate D – Aztec Eagle/Jaguar Warriors.

I think plate I from the Armada Campaign (Elite 15). It is good to see pictures of sailors before the naspoleonic period. Plate E from the The Vikings (Elte 3). Plate B of MAA 239 - Aztec, Mixtec, and Zapotec Armies - great color and interesting uniforms.

Had another look through the collection and any from the Warrior Series The Gladiators book - except perhaps the 1st Plate, not sure many would like a postcard with a bunch of surely recentlt captured slaves on :-)
