O'Neill Rebellion and Renaissance Ireland
El Jibaro
One topic that I would suggest deserves its own Campaign book is the O’Neill Rebellion in Ireland, which began so auspiciously for the Irish with victories over the English at Moyry Pass and at Yellow Ford, and ended with the disaster at Kinsale and the Flight of the Earls. The Men-at-Arms issue “The Irish Wars 1485-1603” covers some of this ground, but some of the illustrations are inaccurate and the text, while providing excellent information on the organization and tactics of the clan-based armies of the Gaelic Irish, does not give, in my opinion, enough explanation as to the importance of the Irish rebellion in the context of England’s rivalry with her enemies, France and Spain. The battle of Kinsale itself deserves its own book.
I also do hope to see more future titles on specific Mediaeval and Renaissance Irish topics, such as the Viking invasion, Brian Boru and the battle of Clontarf, the Norman invasion, etc.

Thank you for your comments El Jibaro, these are definitely ideas to consider. We currently do not have any plans to publish any of the Irish titles you have mentioned but do keep checking back on the website for news on future publications.

Hey guys , how about a book on the battle of Fontenoy? Didn't the Irish Brigade of France kinda beat up the British Guards and take a couple of thier flags?? I'd really like to read about this and get both sides of the battle as you tell so well.

Thank you for these ideas, we receive a lot of requests for books on Ireland so I will be sure to pass these thoughts on for consideration. At the moment, however, our Campaign editors are inundated with great ideas so it may take some time for Campaign suggestions to be properly evaluated.

I'm particularly interested in the Nine Years War, especially the battle of Kinsale. So much, in fact, that I've been meaning to write up a submission for some time. The majority of the research is done, along with other Sixteenth century British battles and wars.

Thanks for the information. I was aware of the influx of Campaign submissions, and, although I do have a couple of ideas for titles in the aforementioned series, I shall probably concentrate on my other series submissions, such as Essential History, Fortress and Warrior. Needless to say, Campaign is the series in which my research on a number of battles has reached a level of near readiness, and will possibly submit then shortly in fear of being pipped at the post by other historians.
Thanks again.

I concur that Kinsale would have made a compelling topic
The pivotal battle features the likes of the charismatic and daring Hugh O'Neiland Donal Cam O'Sullivan, the O'Sullivan Beare.
The campaign does show the two rival techniques between
the Gael/Normano Irish and the Elizabethan armies, loyalist gallowglass, and renegade chieftains.
The topic is of course rather too close to home to be patricularly
objective. Even highlander illustrations are caricatured by some illustrators honestly. The wilde Irish archetype and propaganda is featured regularly in contemporary sources.

I don't know if it is of any help but I would suggest the following library books.
"Twilight Lords" by Richard Berleth "The Great O'Neil" "The Last Prince of Ireland" by Morgan Lywellyn "Warlord Amies" by Angus Mcbride (Good depictions of Elizabethan era Irish warriors).
