They've done Civil War marines but not sailors, nor the Union wooden ships on the Atlantic. This may be a stretch but you could argue that the Fenian Invasions were planned during the Civil War and involved many Irish-American civil war veterans. Bloody Kansas. The Pig War of 1859 (featuring a young soon to be famous officer named Pickett!)

I think an important gap to be filled is a title (campaign) on the battle of the wilderness.

There are several tittles still waiting to be published in the campaign books, such as all the battles fought between Grant and Lee (The Wilderness, Spotslavia, and Cold Harbor and the siege of Petersburg),along with many battles fought in the west which is my favorite topic. I do use the ‘suggest a book’ forum but I have yet to see any of mine on there, and I don’t mean to complain or anything, just making it clear to Osprey I do use that methoid. Maybe they should change there poll format around and have them centered around a topic, such as the American Civil war and we could post our best ideas. Anyway Osprey is far from done and I hope they do some of this campaign tittles I have mentioned.

I would suggest a Vanguard title on "Civil War Cavalry Carbines". The American Civil War was at the crux of the transition from muzzleloading firearms to breechloaders firing metallic cartridges. Although most infantry were still armed with muzzleloading rifles, a large number of revolutionary and innovative breechloaders (including early repeaters like the Spencer and the Henry) such as the Sharps, Tipton, Maynard, Smith, Gallagher, and others were used by cavalry units on both sides. I think that this would be an offbeat and fascinating topic.

Those western battles all too often get ignored, there's enough out there to keep them occupied for ten years, at least (Pea Ridge/Elkhorn Tavern, Chickamauga, Chattanoga, Perryville, etc.). Things like the Perryville Campaign or the Red River Campaign would make good campaign histories, as opposed to battle histories. On the units/men side of things they could do a whole set on partisans/irregulars, from Mosby's Rangers (had to get the plug in :) to the Kansas/Missouri infighting. Extending the time period they're working in, they could do a history on the Free Soiler and proslavery forces in Bleeding Kansas, relative strengths, and encounters. Not sure what category this would go into, but I'd like to see a Union Land-Naval Joint Operations monograph, considering how untrained any Americans were in such things, but how integral they became to Union successes (the Confederates conducted such operations on occasion, but I don't know if there's enough material or substance for a complementary book on the CSA).

Sorry, didn't realize Bleeding Kansas had already been broached :) I think the Fenian invasions idea sounds especially interesting. I've heard the set of battles between the Wilderness and Cold Harbor called the Overland Campaign--I presume it was named so because it didn't travel by water like McClellan's campaign of 1862. That Peninsula Campaign would make a good subject, assuming it's not adequately covered in the Seven Days book. Your mention of Petersburg makes me think of a book just on that siege (including the ever-impressive Battle of the Crater) or possibly on Civil War sieges generally. Depending on precise definitions, this could include everything from Vicksburg-Petersburg-style prolonged sieges to actions against forts like Forts Henry, Donelson, Pillow, or cities like Nashville and New Orleans.
