Ancient/Medieval Indian Armies

crimean

It would be good if Osprey could cover Indian Armies as comprehensively as the Chinese Armies, extending from the Ancient through to the modern era. There was a range of different type of armies from Porus’s Elephants to Turkic cavalryman. These would make excellent colour plates. Also the successor states to the Mughals, such as the Maratha’s, and the Army of Mysore, Hyderabad, Rajput kingdoms. Campaigns such as Hydaspes River 326 BC, Panipat 1526 & 1761 would also be good campaigns to cover. Osprey has said that they are looking to cover topics away from Western Europe, so I hope this is an area they are looking into.

Excellent Idea but i would go further back than Alexander the Great, go back to the first civilizations and the invaders from the north.

I agree entirely. Given that India is an vast subcontinent with a rich tradition of warfare going back thousands of years I think it essential that Osprey attempt to plug this gap. There are a vast range of empires and armies to choose from here. From Mauyra, Gupta and Chola empire armies to the Sultanate of Delhi, Rajputs, Vijayanagara and then into the 17th century and beyond.
