The real First Crusade?
Draconifer
Was the Battle of the Milvian Bridge that took place between the Roman Emperors Constantine I and Maxentius really the first "crusade"?

Not in the medieval sense. Constantine was already taken pro-Christian attitude in 306 (legislation), but the victory over Maxentius convinced him in the might of the Christian God. Anyway, the Battle of the Milvian Bridge of 312 would be good addition to the Campaign series.

Manzikert 1071 was in my opinion the battle that set the Crusades rolling. After this battle European armies together decided to act against the Islamic forces. But Milvian Bridge would be a good addition to the Campaign series along with Manzikert.

The vicious and highly-religious motivated anti-Persian campaigns of East-Roman emperor Heraclius in the early 7th century were very "crusade"-like, IMHO.

Essentially, the battle was not about religion, it was about political conflict and schism in late imperial Rome. The term 'crusade' should be kept to the religious wars of the middle ages, otherwise it gets difficult to draw the line anywhere.
