Wrong cover on C.R.42 book?

jimpern

I'm aware that the cover art you show for forthcoming books is subject to change before publication, but I still wanted to point out an obvious error in the cover art shown for the forthcoming FIAT C.R.42 Aces book.

Of course, the error is that the aircraft shown is a C.R.32, not a C.R.42, and for that matter, the combat depicted is from the Spanish Civil War, which is not generally considered to be part of World War II, so the artwork is incorrect on two counts. Will the artwork be changed before publication? And will the C.R.32 be covered in the book?

Hi Jimpern, thank you for your comment. The image that is being provisionally used for Aircraft of the Aces 90 is not the final cover – the hugely talented Mark Postlethwaite has delivered a great cover illustration for this book and it should look really good when the book is published in September. The focus of the book will be on the CR.42 but if you are interested in the CR.32, we are planning to publish ‘Fiat CR.32 Aces of the Spanish Civil War’ in May.

The actual cover was shown recently on an Osprey news letter. It shows a CR.42 taking out what appears to be a Gloster Gladiator (the picture was quite small so I carnt be 100%). The front cover art work (one of the highlights in the Aircraft of the Aces and AEU series) for No 56 Sqn RFC/RAF is still a mystery though. It will be a surprise when it pops through the post, lol!
