Aviation Combat Organizations
USS GOLD STAR
Individual aircraft and pilots are fine, no problem. What about aviation combat organizations? Here is much rich material of great value, e.g., The U.S.Navy's Patrol Wing TEN, the LEXINGTON Air Group, the U. S. Army's Far East Air Force in the Philippines, The Eighth Air Force, Ninth Air Force, Polish Air Force squadrons, The Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm, No. 320 (Dutch) Squadron RAF, See Aufklärungs Gruppe 125, Kamfgruppe 26, the 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force, Allied and Japanese aircraft units involved with Rabaul, No. 2 Squadron RAAF, The NEAIF, Marineluchtvaartdienst, The Tainan Kokutai, floatplane units in the Imperial Japanese Navy, and so forth. Lots of good stuff, much of it obscure and needs to be dug out of the archives, but interesting and useful.

Great idea, but please not introductory tiltles of 60 odd pages but detailed account of related subjects.As said could be a great way publishing more obscure/neglected subjects., and those that do not fit any series. Love all your suggestions, few mine incorporating aircraft+tactics+organisation+operations

Great idea old chap. This is just the kind of thing I'd be looking for. As well as the classic and excellent illustrations on markings and unit histories etc it'd be great to look at how each organisation developed its tactics during the course of their conflicts. Tally Ho!

sounds like a great idea :)
I was thinking along the line of a little different approach though;
why not do a new series, charting air campaigns of various eras;
this could go along the lines of the well established Campaign series, only having aerial warfare at its core and different campaigns as its topics;
just as in the Campaign series, different campaigns could be spread over multiple volumes, for example Luftwaffe vs Red Air Force during Barbarossa, or USN vs IJN air groups during 1942, or to become more obscure, Luftwaffe or RAF and USAAF PR units on the western front, Finnish vs Red Air Force in the Winter War, Italian AF vs the RAF over the Desert in 1941, the Naval Air war over Korea and so on.....
I guess you people have many many more ideas for such a series....

When I saw this post, I immediately thought of 2nd Allied Tactical Air Force. What about RAF Costal Command in WW2? NATO air forces during the Cold War?
