Kmer empire

South east asia had armies before world war II and the Vietnam-American war... Man-at-arms can give a useful introduction in these armies. What about the Khmer in the time of Ankor? Their Thai opponents also merit a man-at-arms as does the Vietnam struggle with China.

South East Asian armies of different periods would be a great topic for Osprey. Some of the fantastic plates by Peter Dennis in New Vanguard 150 – War Elephants detailed 19th century south East Asian forces and there was a great battle scene between Thai and Burmese armies of 1549. I hope Osprey can explore these more.

Thank you for these suggestions, it goes to show that no matter how much Osprey publishes, there are always new and exciting routes to explore. It is great to hear these ideas for consideration in Eastern Warfare – as usual, it helps to hear back from lots of readers so we can ascertain which topics are most wanted! Do you agree with these ideas and/or do you have other suggestions?

I would also be very interested in seeing new books about the Khmer Empire as well as armies of Thailand and Burma throughout history especially during the elephant wars of the 1500's and 1600's. Maybe a book on the armies of King Naresuan would be nice. I think this period is one of growing interest and will increase in the future thanks to the numerous epic war movies coming out of Thailand these days.

There certainly seems to be a lot of support for south-east Asian titles, which I will make my colleagues aware of. It is certainly an area that Osprey could explore further. If you would also like to see such titles, do feel free to leave a comment here and let Osprey know!

Hi, definitely. I think a tile on Khmer, Cham and Vietnamese armies in the 800s to the 1700s are defintely overdue. Armies on Malaya and Indonesia would also be welcome. There is no shortage of scholars. I fail to see why Osprey has ignored this area. Go Osprey!!!
