Shaolin Warrior Monks

Doe3000

Does anyone here have an interest in the Shaolin? They are an integral part of Western pop culture involving the ancient Far East, in much the same way as the Japanese Ninja. They are also similar to the Ninja in that they are seen as a semi-historical sect that have being imbued with almost magical martial arts skills.

Yet despite their association with legend, they did play some part in real history, fighting at the battle of Hulao in AD 621, as well taking part in many battles during the Ming Period (1368-1644).

It seems odd that such a well known fighting group have not been covered by Osprey, especially when you consider that the Ninja and the Sohei Warrior Monks each have their own Warrior book. Is there any plans for a Shaolin Warrior or Elite title in the future?

Yes a book devoted to that sect of the enigmatic war monastics
would be timely. They are reknowned warriors to the present day.
I would imagine they would have performed magnificiently on the
battlefield. The visual plates that Osprey excells in would be particularly of interest in their case.

I don’t know much myself about Shaolin Warrior Monks, and would be interested to learn more about their roles in actual battles.
