armies in india?
js
Osprey have a graet "series" on armies in Japan & China, from 200 Bc until now.
I do not understand why warfare on the Indian sub continent has been neglected (except for the moghul & word wars). Men-at-arms covering India's ancient armies (Harappa, the Aryan invasion) the armies of Ashoka etc..., even the raj , would be a good read.

I do agree with the last comment regarding the neglect shown to military conflicts on the Indian sub continent. Considering that it was the location for Duke of Wellington's first major battle (Assaye) and where the British came near to defeat in the Sikh Wars, it is a little disapointing not to find more 'campaign' series titles in this area. It would be a nice idea to start with the 18th and 19th century and work back to the ancient/medieval period.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above. I think every period would be of interest. On ancient side, my particular interest. The Indian (Kushan, and other states to in the Indian west as well), faced many of the peoples you have already covered. I would also take it beyond the Raj to modern times.

I think we need an MAA on the Gupta empire. So little is written about them. Even more we need books on the Kushan empire. Its virtually unknown in all spheres.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will add them to the suggested titles list and pass your thoughts onto the commissioning editors. Also, fill in the Books I'd Like to Read column (on the right hand side) to ensure your interests are given a fair consideration.

I agree with having more campaign books concerning the subcontinent. It would be great to have campaigns books based on The Sikh and Afghan Wars. Maybe a Men-At-Arms series on the Sultanate of Delhi and The Rajputs. Also a book focusing on Nadir Shah’s campaigns (Perhaps Age of Nadir Shah), similar to Men-At-Arms book Age of Tamerlane, would be great.

I'm very interested in 16th-17th c. armies of India and Ceylon. Specially the wars against the Portuguese.

Titles on India are sorely needed. I have read a number of obscure books on the subject and know that the Chinese, Koreans and Japanese were not the only ones to practice non-weapon martial arts and use an exotic range of arms. For example, similar to the samurai in Japan were the Nairs of Kerala who formed entire armies against local rulers and the encroachment of Portuguese and Dutch from the medieval period to the 18th century. They were admired as lethal warriors, had their own system of martial arts training from childhood (kalaripayat) and distinctive weapons. They also had a tradition of fighting to the death or committing ritual suicide (similar to ancient and medieval Tamil warriors). It would be great to see titles on the various martial castes of India.
