http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=7286285 The above link leads to a story about this very subject. To summarize, the Russian parliament had voted in 2008 to change the red stars to red white and blue stars. However public outcry, and I'm sure the influence of Mr Putin who has resurrected/protected other Soviet era symbols, have led to them reversing this decision and keeping the red star as a "symbol of their great victories"

Any chance of Osprey publishing a book on the Russian Air force? There was an advertisement on the Osprey website to a site dedicated to the Russian Air Force. The Site has some impressive illustrations.
