Why you stop publishing battle orders series ?

Tomi

Hello,

It`s a shame that Osprey ended Batle Orders series. It was an refreshing difference compared to other products. I dont mean that others are bad, but I think that BO was more indepth, than more (drawed) picture oriented series.

What was the reason for ending it ? I hope that you can bring it back someday.

I am especialy sad that Mr. Rottmans planed books of japanese troops and units of WWII was left unifinshed.

Hi, I made a thread on this very issue about a month ago:

It's a shame because I enjoyed the series as well. The general consensus was that Osprey put out too many books in too short of a period and they just dident catch on. I loved the TO&E charts and the in depth information that the Elite and MAA books don't have the space for.

Hi both, thank you for your comments. We would love to keep commissioning Battle Orders books, but as our other series are more successful with our customers we have chosen to put our time and efforts into these instead. Maybe we will revisit the series in the future, but at the moment we are concentrating on a huge array of exciting new titles that will be coming out over the next year or two.

I think the Battle Orders series was outstanding, particularly the title on the American Expeditionary Force in WW I but I think the lack of colour artwork & releasing a flood of titles in too short a timespan definately played a part in dooming the series popularity.

Hi there. I too miss the BTO series and would have appreciated the book which would have offset the "Briish Army in the Far East" (No 13) and given another view of the conflict. I am not sure the "too many" "too soon" argument holds much water though. The first BTO was published Feb 2004 and the last in July 2009 which is approx 38 books in 64 months. The Duel series, for instance has seen a first issue September 2007 and the most recent secheduled for November 2009 - thats approx 24 books in approx 26 months!! This would make it a veritable Tsunami - and it makes ypu wonder how long this series will last eh? :)
