Ecactly how much is changed when a title is revised?

duck88

I recently purchases Men-At-Arms The Waffen-SS, 1982 edition and I was wondering just how much was changed between the 82 and 71 versions, and in general(All revised editions) how much is changed? Are new plates or is new text added?

Thanks

I don't know about the Waffen SS title, but at least one other MAA title has had a revised edition: #70, the US Army 1941-45. The original and revised editions are completely different books -- different text, photos and illustrations. And then to top it all off, like the Waffen SS title, it was superseded by a multivolume work in the 1990s.

The revised edition of the Waffen-SS basically covered the same topics as the original, an overall precis of the subjectbut incorporates new information on insignia that became known in the 10-odd years since the original edition with of course much better artwork. Some other revised editions such as The Roman Army from Caesar to Trajan & the U.S. Army 1941-45 have new text & keep their original series numbers color plates while The American War 1812-14 and The U.S. Army 1890-1920 were reissued on the cheap with the original text & new plates but with new series numbers.

Another one that was extensively revised is Vol 2 of the British infantry combat equipment.
I remember that Mike Chappel wanted to update some information and bring the booklet up to the adoption of the PLCE which was quite revolutionary for the Brits at the time.

There's another one by Mike Chapell for the calvary but I can't remember which title.
