Strategos(Kay Boers)

I noticed that there was no Bibliography, is this normal?
Please post you opinion and reactions on Dawson's Byzantine Cavalryman c.900-1204.

Hey Strategos, I haven't purchased the book, but I'm guessing you have. I tend to avoid books that have no preview option, which this book has not.

What do you think of it?

I have the first chapter, the Byzantine Infantryman c.900-1204 and it's a very good book. Admittedly, I don't have another Warrior title to compare it to, but it's very nicely written and I think Dawson analysys of Byzantine armor and period images is spot on - he definately takes a stance whether or not Byzantine (and for that matter, armies in the medieval Balkans) wore those old fashioned leather "pteruges". I'm really looking forward to Byzantine Cavalryman, so if anyone has the book, please share your thoughts or a review.

It's on my list to order after payday (Friday phew). however I managed to have a good look through at Britcon (wargames comp in Manchester UK) a couple of weeks ago and the artwork is really v nice.

I alos have the Byzantine infantryman by the same author - he has done an excellent job in revising the view on what Byzantine soldiers looked like - challenging interpretations of artwork etc. So if you compare pictures from early Ospreys - say MAA Byzantine armies C9th to c11th (I think) you'll see the author gives them a more "eastern" and less traditional Byzantine appearance. As to why there is no Bibliography, dunno :-)

Hey Ildirim that sounds awesome! I'm glad you liked what you saw, how detailed are the illustrations? The front cover looks like it was very well done, but other books have had a promising cover, and then disappointing complementary pictures. Do the illustrations cover the post-Manzikert period? Are they varied and interesting? Thanks.

Dear Osprey,
when do you plan to let us preview the book on Amazon? I am leaning towards buying the book, but I rarely buy anything that doesn't let me look inside/see what I'm getting

Thanks!
