Mistake in Campaign:Otterburn 1388
MacKaris
Just finished reading the Campaign series book Otterburn 1388, and I spotted a minor error in it in the form of a false epithet.
In the book the author Peter Armstrong refers to Archibald Douglas, the 4th earl of Douglas as "the Tyneman." This, however, is apparently the epithet of his great-uncle Sir Archibald Douglas who was the commander of the Scottish forces at Halidon Hill 1333, and not the 4th earl of Douglas'. Armstrong refers to Douglas as "the Tyneman" in several chapters of the book, indicating that this is a genuine research mistake, rather than an isolated copy-editing or transcription error.
I was quite surprised to find such an "elementary" mistake in the book, for otherwise the book seemed well-researched and scholarly (even despite the fact that Armstrong is not really a qualified historian). I trust that Osprey will pursue to correct this inaccuracy for the next edition of the book?
Kind regards,
Peter Karis
