Armies of the Iran-Iraq War

crimean

Has osprey any plans to cover the armies of the Iran-Iraq war? Or perhaps Osprey good look into an Elite title on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard along with Basij militia. Also I would suggest the Iraqi Republican Guard and various other worldwide ones.

The Iran-Iraq War was in a Men at Arms poll years ago. That would be a book I would buy in a heartbeat.

A MAA title on the Iran-Iraq War armies would interest me.

Yes, and a title on each the Iraqi and Iranian armed forces respectively. Given the tensions with an possibility of conflict with Iran, I think a round-up of Iranian forces and capabilities would attract much interest.

Also a title 'Iraqi forces of the Gulf War' (jnc invasion of Kuwait) would be very welcome as no books seem to focus on them although US troops/Desert Storm are represented.

I would love to see a book that covers Saddams' armed forces and para military forces as well; Iran-Iraq war, Gulf war, and the 2003 war! Maybe in two titles, one for Iran-Iraq war and the 1991 Gulf war. The second over the 2003 war because of all the the new para-military organizations like special republican guard, Al-Quds, Fedayeen Saddam, Ba'ath Party militia ext. that were created in the 90's would take up even more space. -James

I would buy them for sure, I really like the Iran-Iraq War. Some books about the different campaigns like:

- Khorramshahr,
- the Tanker War,
- the different Operations Dawn,
- Operation Badr and its use of chemical weapons by Iraq,
- Operation Karbala-5 (the biggest battle in the war),
- Majnoon Islands,
- the fall of Al-Faw Peninsula (turining point in the war)
- Operation Morvarid (Iranian Navy Day)
- Operation Praying Mantis (US attack the Iranian navy)

I am talking about different books, because it was an 8 years war with much detailed day-by-day accounts. An Elite series for the Republican Guard and other for the Basij and Pasdaran. Man-at-Arms series about both armies. Naval operations, with frogmen and even amphibious assaults were conducted by both sides. The employment of Scud launchers in the War of the Cities, the employment of Brazilian-made Astros II multiple rocket launchers and light armored vehicle Cascavel (Rattlesnake) by the Iraq forces.

There is also space for the tactics (or the lack of them) during the conflict. A duel series with the soviet-made Iraqi armor agaisnt the Iranian Chieftain would be jsut great. The air duels and the Iranian F-4 Phantom in action (the Iran–Iraq War in the Air 1980–1988 book would come in handy).
