Napoleonic FORUM
Plan for Napoleonic New Vanguard titles
Corto Maltese
I was thrilled by the New Vanguard title on the British Nap Ship-of-the-Line, and loved the titles on Nap:s and the Austrian's guns. So I was very disapointed to see somewhere on the forum (was it in a post by David Hollins?) that plans for a similar title on Prusian guns had been put on ice.
Is there a plan for publishing follow-up titles on these two themes - ships and artillery? One might wish for a title on frigates (perhaps even a special on razées), or a title examining the much ridiculed and underestimated, and little understood, French flotilla for the invasion of Britain.
And is it right that the Prusian guns are really on ice? Or worse?

It was a peculiar episode as I was actually asked to write the Austrian NV back in 2001, but that was just as the Nap market rather dried up. Sales opf the French/Uk titles were poor and the subseries was abandoned. I can only commend Dawson, Dawson & Summerfield: Napoleonic Artillery to you for info on the Russians and Prussians. (Avoid Kiley's book as it is third-hand rubbish).

Oh... I'm sorry to hear that! But thank's for the advice - I will check it out.
I'm surprised to hear that the napoleonic market dried up. The latest titles on individual French regiments (I think you compared them to Waffen SS underpants a while back) seem to have sold out almost before they left the printers. But perhaps they're printed in smaller quantities.
Incidentaly David - since I'm a bit of a fan - are you working on anything special now? I hope you don't mind me asking.

Naps have certainly picked up in the last year or so, partly due to the work, which has been done on 1809 and the start of the Peninsular. Howeevr, as you can see from the old lists, Naps dominated in the early Osprey years, so there are lots of titles covering the main areas, but which are rather out of date now (the Allied flag book being one). Whether any would get rewritten I don't know, although for me, there is really only Rivoli now and if they get round to him in the Commanders series, the Archduke.
I have pretty much come to the end of the road, although I have contributed the Austrian chapter for an upcoming non-Osprey book and I am continuing to look in the dark corners for traces of the espionage activity.
