US navy barbary coast camapaigns

Alessio

The campaigns conducted by the US navy in 1805 and 1815 (if I remember well) against pirates in north Africa Is an overlooked topic that deserve a bit more of attention. It would also be an occasion to have a look to the very early US marines units.

The Barbary Wars is also touched upon on the two New Vanguard books on American frigates, but nothing particular on the uniforms of sailors or crews that I'm aware of. I'd like to see a book on the Barbary Corsairs themselves to go nicely with the Osprey Pirates titles! Colin

I believe the original poster was asking for actual Campaign books that dealt with individual battles during the Barbary wars. I can think of two important battles that can be turned into books. First, there's the 1805 battle of Derna, which was the first battle on foreign soil by the US military. Second, Stephen Decatur's raid to burn the Philadelphia -- an action that Lord Nelson claimed was the most "daring act of the age" -- could be turned into a Raid book.
