Naval Raid titles
MarkL
I thought I'd start a thread over here and see what ideas others would come up with.
Some suggestions from me for starters :
Alexandria 1941 ~ Italians cripple two British battleships in one action
Sydney 1942 , Diego Suarez 1942 ~ Japanese mini subs
Charleston 1864 ~ H L Hunley sinks the Housatonic

HMS Conqueror sinking the General Belgrano. It’s historically significant (first sinking by a SSN) and politically controversial

That would be an interesting title, although it might be a better fit for "Duel" than "Raid". Doesn't really fit comfortably into either category.
I would love to see a book, probably in New Vanguard, detailing the French and/or Italian Battle fleets of the 20th Century.
Also, as a possible "Raid" title, how about Mers-El-Kebir, the British Fleet attack on the Vichy French fleet? That one I believe would fit well into the category, as it's too short in duration to be a "Campaign" title.

Good point Keiichi. There was a Vanguard title on American nuclear subs, maybe a Vanguard title on British nuclear subs could tackle the Belgrano issue

That would be a good approach, as well. It seems that, once the Cold War started, all Naval forces other than the American and Soviet have been largely forgotten, or at least relegated to the status of a footnote.
A title dealing with British submarines post World War II would be great, or even just an overview of British Naval Operations in general since 1950.

If we're going to be making suggestions for Naval Raid titles, how about the raid that set the standard for major naval - air engagement for most of the rest of World War 2?
I'm referring to the British strike at Taranto. I think that would make a fantastic Raid title, as the Mediterranean theater in general had some of the most important battles and campaigns of the war, but is often overlooked.
