Modern Naval Warfare

Tombo

With the exception of one book on modern USN SSNs (New Vanguard 138, the first Osprey book I ever bought), an out of stock MAA on the Falklands War, and a few books on Riverine Warfare in Vietnam there has been no coverage of post WWII naval combat other than aviation.

I would love to see a few books on how the worlds navies have changed since 1945 - nuclear power, guided missiles, super carriers and the like. Personally I would snap up a New Vanguard on the Leander-class of frigate and their many variants.

Another area that might be interesting would be the growth (and decline) of the Soviet/Russian navy.

Anyone else interested in more modern naval combat?

You can add to the list a New Vanguard on Nimitz class carriers. Amazon reports it coming out in November 2010.

Agree on Nimitz and Leander. A New Vanguard on ‘British SSNs’, ‘Fearless class landing ship’ and ‘Invincible class aircraft carriers’ might be an idea, all of which have seen long and active military service. I also suggest Elite tactics on ‘Cold War ASW Tactics’ and ‘Modern naval mine countermeasures’.

Good news on the Nimitz. Don't forget the Brits (and others) Osprey ;-)

I would love to see a New Vanguard covering the British Daring Class Destroylers of the 50's. Agree a Leander Vanguard would be great also, in fact any British Destroyers and Frigates of the post war era up to the 80's.

That is very good news about the Nimitz-class, I must have missed that one the last time I looked through Amazon. Nice to see a book about British WW2 carriers on that list as well.

Cold War ASW tactics would be a very interesting read as well, from both sides of the Iron Curtain.

Leanders and Darings would absolutely be interesting. The same would go for type 45s, Sovremennys, Udaloys and Arleigh Burkes. In short, whatever Osprey will publish on post-WWII naval vessels, I'll buy.

I agree with you Hakkapeliitta, more post-war ships please. Might be too early though for the Type-45, they are just entering service, unless you meant the Type 42 (Sheffield class), which have seen much service.

Well, I did mean 42s. But hey, while I'm at it, why not 45s as well :)
