Tannerburg for Campiagns
xavierb
Dear Osprey editor:
Itook a look at the WW I index and and I was very surprised that there's no Campign booklet on Tannenburg. I've read that it was a decisive battle but I don't understand why.
Would it be possible to commission an authour to write about the battle?
Thanks!

I agree! A key battle in WWI that certainly could do with a campaigne title. The reason it was so decisive is that it resulted in the complete destruction of the Russian Second Army and effectivly removed the Russian threat to East Prussia. It showed the frailty of the Tsarist Russian Army and passed the initiative on the Eastern Front to the Germans (it also served to eclipse the German failure a the Marne in the west).

Agree,I've had this title on several of my "Books I'd Like To Read" dream sheets, only can figure Osprey is having hard time finding an author to do it.

There are lots of suggestions for important, if not truly decisive campaign books, but you are right, Tannenburg was a truly decisive battle

As long as there is no Osprey booklet on Tannenberg: The book "August 1914" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn is almost like an Osprey campaign book and gives a good idea on what Tannenberg was about.
