Spain's war in Morocco: Rif and Anual

xavierb

Dear Osprey:
The defeat of the Spanish forces at Anual ranks as one of the most serious military catastrophes in history. A Campaign booklet is quite appropriate and would be very interesting.

The Rif could be a men at arms booklet and mention how that conflict lead to the Setmana tragica (the Tragic week) which influced subsequent events leading to the Spanish civil war

Agreed, there is so little out there in the English language about the disaster at Annual and the Rif War in general. I recently got the reprinted Men at Arms book on the Spanish Foreign Legion and now I am intrigued by their history and the Rif War in general. I think at the very least that a Men at Arms book on the Rif War is much needed in addition to a Campaign book on the Battle of Annual in 1921.

There isn’t a great deal about the Rif War even on the Internet. I also bought the Spanish Foreign Legion book and would like to know more.

It was a major war. Total about 45,000 died on the Spanish, French, Rif, and other tribe sides.

Battle of Annual and the Rif war would be a great subject. Thank You for mentioning this event. You have me intrigued. I would eagerly buy his title. Is it safe to say El Krim and his boys didnt cause all this havoc with scimitars and flintlocks?

It’s good to see such interest in the Rif War and the Battle of Annual – I will pass your comments and enthusiasm on to my colleagues. Please also use the ‘Books I’d Like to Read’ function on the right-hand side of the page!

I'd also like to see an MAA book on Spanish 'colonial' ie. Moroccan troops in 20th century.
