A suggestion for the Duel series

Enormous Stilton

Well, I've recently finished 'Panzer Gunner', a book by Bruno Friesen about his experiences with the 7th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front, 1944-45. There are some very interesting chapters discussing tactics, technical details and the experience of serving in Panzer IV's (and later the Jagdpanzer IV) up against Soviet T34/85's and JS-2's.
So, as an idea, how about a Duel book, titled: Panzer IV versus T34/85, Operation Bagration 1944?
I know I'd like to know more about the use of both these tanks, especially the quality of personnel and training at this stage of the war, and often feel that the poor old Panzer IV gets a tad overlooked by the Panther!

I am of same opinion. Panzer IV deserves own place in Duel series. It was THE major tank in numbers on german side during biggest tank battle of all time @ Kursk. Also a second Tiger I volume, put against Soviet armor (JS 2?) would be nice. Germans were specialists in using tank detroyers and a duel book or Elite Tactics book on this subject could be interesting I think.

I agree completely. The Panzer IV was the most numerous and most versatile of all German tracked armor, yet it seems to be repeatedly passed over so far as detailed examination of the Panzer forces.

A Duel title involving the Panzer IV could be developed for almost any theatre in which the Germans operated, with the possible exception of North Africa. Bagration would be an excellent choice, as would the Battle for Caen following the Normandy Invasion.

Panthers and Tigers get most of the attention, but the Panzer IV was the backbone of the Panzer Corps from 1943 onward. It deserves its own Duel title, or perhaps two.

I was just checking Amazon for the latest additions to the Osprey publishing schedule and found this Duel title scheduled for release in Jan 2011. Panzer IV vs Char B1 bis: France 1940 by Steven Zaloga I have to say January can't get here soon enough and I hope (really hope) there's no delays on this title. Thanks for putting this title out there Osprey!
