Modelling the SdKfz 251 Halftrack

Due to its sheer numbers, prolific appearance in every theater of the war, and its importance in Germany's battle doctrine, the SdKfz 251 is arguably one of the most important vehicles of the war. The variations in body design through its production life, its mission-oriented variations, and paint schemes provide the modeler almost endless options.Unfortunately for 251 fans, aftermarket companies have almost ignored the subject (at least in comparison to the vast number of variants). Only within the past three to four years have we seen anyone attempt to improve the interior or offer photo-etch. While companies like Azimut, MR Models and Verlinden Productions have offered several conversion sets; none had really attempted any significant interior detail enhancements for the basic chassis until recently. Now Royal Model, Eduard, Part and R&J Enterprises have started a resurgence in interest in the vehicle with their recent offerings. In addition to the statements above, the fact that it is an open-topped vehicle makes it the perfect subject for modeling in diorama and static display.
