Today, in 1812, Lord Wellington stormed the Spanish fortress town of Ciudad Rodrigo.
Actually, the attack itself took place at nightfall. The beautiful and well-built up town had been under siege for several days, and Wellington's cannon finally breached the thick walls in the evening.
The beautiful cathedral escaped with minor damage, and is still going strong today. The original image can be viewed here.
