Take a look at what you’ll find inside Warriors of Athena: Quests...

***************************************************

Could you command monsters and mythic beasts? Weave stories and lay challenges before your friends? Then you should lead a Warriors of Athena campaign as the Oracle! Functioning as a game master, you’ll guide players through the challenges of the scenarios found in Warriors of Athena: Quests or use the bestiary to write your own.

Quests

All the scenarios found in Quests are designed to be playable solo or co-operatively. They’re streamlined enough to run without an Oracle. This is also great for new Oracles who can focus on a few aspects – controlling the monsters or determining the most dramatic order of events, for example – and let the built-in systems take care of the rest.

Full control and the introduction of scenes (Warriors of Athena’s role-playing element) can be added over time. As the Oracle you can grow with the campaign, adjusting existing scenarios and introducing your own full quests that follow the wants and interests of the players.

Creating your own Quests

Best place to start designing your own quests is with a goal. Recover the golden fleece, complete 12 labours, or defeat the minotaur. This gives you a clear hook on which to hang your narrative and each scenario you create should move the heroes closer to achieving it. In Quests you’ll find all you need to create a good campaign structure, tips for recurring characters and how to design the individual scenarios.

Each scenario in Warriors of Athena typically features a prologue which plays out more like a tabletop role-playing game, with the Oracle delivering the narrative and presenting the heroes with choices or scenes for them to investigate and apply their skills to. The consequences of these vignettes then influence the events on the table. Perhaps the heroes spot a hidden mountain path giving them better deployment options or find helpful items in an abandoned farmstead while tracking a herd of centaurs. Equally, failure may come with setbacks that manifest once miniatures are in play.

Adversaries

In Quests you’ll find a roster of all the allies and adversaries that appear in the book’s four questlines along with extras to try out in scenarios of your own. The world of Warriors of Athena is full of weird, wonderful and deadly creatures for your heroes to face. From cunning centaurs to mighty minotaurs, you’ll find all of their stats, equipment and abilities laid out in the Bestiary for you to deploy in your games.

Note from the Author

"Designing your own quests can be a daunting undertaking but it is truly one of the best parts of the game.

Start small with just a single scene and scenario, and slowly work your way up.

There is something truly special about playing through a quest no one else has ever tried before."

– Joseph A. McCullough
