Biography

Dr. Fernando Arteaga is the Academic Director of the Penn Initiative for the Study of Markets at the University of Pennsylvania’s Economics Department, where he also serves as a Senior Fellow. His research centers on historical political economy, with a particular interest in Latin America, exploring how institutions, beliefs, and economic factors have shaped political and social structures over time. He has taught courses on global, U.S., and Latin American economic history, development economics, economic philosophy, and the history of economic thought. Outside of work, he enjoys tabletop wargaming with a historical focus.
