For Germany, the Spanish Civil War proved a perfect testing ground for new technologies and tactics. During the war, some 19,000 German 'volunteers' formed an aviation group called the Legion Condor in support of the fascists. Originally flying He-51s, they were soon upgraded to 109s. These fighters proved dominant in the Spanish skies, and many members of the legion scored five or more kills during the fighting.

Robert Forsyth tells a superb story of the fighter arm of the Legion Condor ... The book is full of pilot stories, superb period photos and a goodly selection of full color profiles; just what we have all come to expect from Osprey.
Scott Van Aken, Modeling Madness
Osprey's latest title added to the Aircraft of the Aces series is interesting and informative. Excellent story, colour profiles, and period images will be familiar to all that read Osprey books and Aces of the Condor Legion has it all. The book does a great job of detailing the events that took place during their time in the Spanish Civil War. From the He 51 to the new Me 109s and the men that flew them, the story is told from the beginning of the creation of the Legion Condor.

Forsyth is a renowned expert on the subject of the German Luftwaffe in WW II, and this book proves he knows quite a bit about the pre-war Luftwaffe too. In Aces of the Legion Condor, his knowledge of the subject is confirmed in a thoroughly documented text.
