The French Foreign Legion fought a major role against the Viet Minh in the First Indochina War.
In this photo, a patrol interrogates a suspected Viet Minh soldier. The French forces in Vietnam were decisively beaten at the month long Battle of Dien Bien Phu in the spring of 1954.
