Veteran Italian players will tell you that in previous editions, they’ve had a bit of a tough time of things, with the infamous Avanti Savoia! rule swinging games wildly once bodies started dropping. We already gave Italians a boost in their PDF rules as part of removing the ‘negative’ special rules from the game, and the new book was a great opportunity to go back and completely re-evaluate how Italian forces work. Leading off, we’ve got two new rules that apply across the book: Alzo Zero! making your artillery more likely to literally stick to their guns, and Mixed Quality giving your Inexperienced units a nice little boost. Joining them is a revamped Defensive Strategy, letting you set up units in Ambush to start the game, and slowing your enemy down on the first turn.

Anyone who’s been paying attention to how army special rules work in Bolt Action: Third Edition will know that we’re not done there – Germany started the trend with Defend the Fatherland, and every subsequent book has continued. Italy will be no exception – let’s meet the rule that allows you to theme your force exactly the way you want it…

AVANTI!

Remember we said that Armies of Italy would cover both pre-and post-Armistice forces? We weren’t kidding. Also joining the party are the German-backed Republican Army, and the Allied Co-Belligerent Army, with their own unique units, force selectors, and of course special rules. One book – three ways to play an Italian force!
