Oathmark: Second Edition revises and expands Joseph A. McCullough's epic rules for mass fantasy battles. Today we're previewing the rules for creating legendary heroes .

Playing through a campaign of Oathmark: Second Edition weaves together the story of your Kingdom and its army. As your army grows from a handful of core troops to a host of hardened veterans that reflects your growing realm, you have the opportunity to weave an epic story of a legendary hero within your ranks. With each battle, they accumulate experience and unlock powerful new heroic traits that allow them to break the normal rules of battle.

A kingdom may record the deeds of many legendary heroes that dwell within its borders however an army may only field one legendary hero in a battle. Though exceptional circumstance may allow multiple heroes to take the field should all players agree.

Rules excerpt from Oathmark:Second Edition

To create a legendary hero, you may choose any Champion, Commander, or Spellcaster that is not a monster and select a heroic trait for them. Heroic Traits unlock powerful abilities but will raise the figures cost by 30pts. Below you can see an examples of the traits available.

The life of a legendary hero is of course not without risk. Should they fall to 0 health or flee the field (embarrassing – hopefully the bards weren’t paying attention), then they must roll on the survival table to determine their fate. Was it a mortal blow or just a flesh wound? Will their journey continue or will they be remembered in song?
